The dazed and distant look on Brent Seabrook's face after the Chicago Blackhawks defenseman got crushed against the boards cried out for a head shot ban -- in time for the third period. The sight of Boston Bruins star Marc Savard out cold on the ice after a vicious hit March 7 sent a message about the need for attention to player safety, too. And it followed the forced retirements in recent years of Eric Lindros, Keith Primeau and others who suffered multiple, debilitating concussions.

I hope they do it. I think the players want it as much as anybody else   -John Davidson

Given the severity of the hit on Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook I completely understand why he is pissed off at Anaheim Ducks defenseman (and his friend) James Wisnewski. That said, it is a long know fact that once the puck drops there are no friends on the ice, always has and always will be that way. I suspect once Seabrook has time to reflect on this that he will realize that Wisnewski was merely doing his job, albeit in a dangerous and gutless fashion.

Coming out of the Olympic break, the Los Angeles Kings seemed primed to contend for home-ice advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Now, they may have to scramble to reach the postseason for the first time since 2002. The struggling Kings look to avoid a third consecutive loss and pick up two key points as the New York Islanders visit Staples Center on Saturday night.

I think ultimately, everyone could be better here   -Dustin Brown

Rodriguez hit his first homer, a towering drive over the scoreboard in left in the third off Rick Porcello, who was charged with four runs — one earned — and four hits over three innings. Sabathia, lined up to pitch the regular season opener April 4 at Boston, gave up four hits, two walks and struck out eight.

Time was running out for the Ducks on Friday night, which seemed a fitting metaphor for the season. But they came back with a furious finish, scoring the tying goal with 32 seconds left in regulation before Saku Koivu netted the winner 14 seconds into overtime for a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders at the Honda Center. The Ducks' third win in a row — after an 0-4-1 start following the Olympic break — left them seven points out of the final Western Conference playoff spot with 12 games to play.

The chief executives from all four of Arizona's major professional sports teams met in downtown Phoenix on Friday to discuss the economic situations of their respective franchises, and although each agreed times have been tough, they also see brighter days ahead. That especially was true when the participants - Suns President Rick Welts, Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall, Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves and Coyotes President Doug Moss - were asked about possible upcoming lockouts or work stoppages

There has to be adjustments. I think everybody knows that   -Rick Welts
